A.M.Hanson's photographs and photo-related art represents a personal journey and contemporary record of urban and rural stories, concepts and encounters.

His work celebrates and/or documents the "flux and movement" of people, animals, structures and objects, locations, environments and dreams.

A photo-archive, spanning over twenty years, shows work which creates or records situations, events and ideas. From the fields of a Yorkshire childhood, to the collapse of the Berlin Wall, to the `brit art/pop` of London in the 90s, to fresh concepts relating to urban living and the natural world in the 21st century.

Work has been exhibited widely in recent years including shows in London, Tokyo, Berlin, Milan and Barcelona (see archive for related information). 

Photographs and other paper works are produced in unique, open and edition c and b/w and mono prints and also in a range of shapes, sizes and formats, including books, boxes, folios, blow ups and fold outs and other printed and image based matter. Other related work includes; photo-construction, installation, drawing and other work on paper, site specific work, film and other mixed and multi media concerns.

An `off shoot` of solo and collaborative mixed and multi media appears under the banner of alexcalledsimon projects. This includes site-specific work, performance, actions and recordings. Concept characters such as Country Tramp, Missy Island, Susan Tripod and Rebel Against Thing present themselves to the world in a variety of guises and formats.

Simonsplaypeneditions produces unique and edition picture books (and other printed material) by the artist and collaborators. Hanson has also contributed to large format international art books (see archive for further details). 

An evolving collection of raw photo-portraits (originally shown as photo-notebooks) and worked `people imagery` includes friends, collaborators, people whose work he admires, artists and performers, the famous, infamous, people from a variety of work disciplines, unsung heroes, strangers and passers-by; in the street, countryside and wasteland, at home or work, on stage, at play, at war, in love. Often these portraits become `photo stories` which gradually evolve into `photo series` (recently and ongoing; such as "This is David Hoyle" photo series, "Bonjour Mr. Blackbird" book project and others).

Selected archive, recent and ongoing projects and series are noted on this site. They range from documentations and records of specific places and times to thematic concepts and productions relating to modern life and other theories.

A particular emphasis, of selected work shown here, is on recent and archive performance related photo work, inter-connected with other photo series and stories of urban documentations, nature based topics, conceptual photographic and associated art work.
