Leeds & Edinburgh b/w photographs

Whilst at college in Leeds Hanson made a series of portraits relating to plays on the theatre course and projects on the art course he was taking. He also made a related series whilst performing in plays at Leeds University Workshop Theatre of actors, make up artists and visiting directors, together with play posters.The group of photographs made in Edinburgh were of a (then) unfamous Eddie Izzard doing a street performance ("he naturally knew how to draw a crowd") and of a french mime act (Un Chant de L'Amour) posing before their show.

From `swimming pool` series made of members of Leeds Swimming Club during a training session. Other work from this series (a montage: `Bridge with Swimming Pool`) was exhibited in New Surrealism at Leeds City Art Gallery.

Made during royal visit to open art gallery extension. " Visually public behaviour during royal family excursions is often much more interesting than the `star turn`. Whilst waiting for someone to arrive this young kid got bored and marched over to a policeman standing by the war memorial. Taking aim with his green water pistol he fired a few shots at a very amiable copper. I was shooting in black and white so it made the picture more vital".
